Show quantitative readiness

An economics statement should make clear that you can handle the mathematics and statistics the programme assumes, especially for research focused or quantitative tracks. Reference the relevant courses, methods, or tools you have used rather than simply claiming you are analytical. Committees admit students who can keep up with econometrics and theory.

Name a focused research interest

Rather than praising economics in general, name the area that draws you, whether development, labour, behavioural, macro, or applied micro. Connect it to your background and to faculty or modules at that university. A focused interest reads as a considered choice and helps the committee place you.

Bring evidence of real analysis

Reference a thesis, a data project, an internship, or a research assistant role, and state your question, your method, and what you found. Even a course paper counts when you explain the reasoning. Concrete analysis signals readiness far better than a list of subjects.

State goals that follow from the work

Close with a goal that grows from your interest and the programme, whether further research, policy, or an analytical role in industry or the public sector. Name the kind of problem or institution you want to work on so the goal feels real.
